We have been in Ireland for one year and six months, and I think it’s only recently we have become accustomed to the move. For good or bad Los Angeles was our home and leaving under the circumstances we left under was stressful.
We always intended to leave and we spent many hours trying to figure out where we would go. Hawaii was discussed and numerous other states. For itself California especially northern is great but really expensive and we aren’t made of money.
So fate offered us the chance to return to Ireland and we took it. Being thrown out of our apartment which has been renovated and is now on offer for $4000 per month!
There is no way on this planet I would pay that much for an apartment to rent, if I could afford that I would probably be able to buy the apartment out right if I really wanted one.
The Pandemic and lockdowns made the transition even harder then it should have been. Moving from lockdown to lockdown felt like yes it was us but the scenery had changed. It felt for the longest time we were just on vacation.
We plan to go back to California later this year and to say goodbye to the places we were unable to visit during lockdown. I think that even the thought of being able to do that cheered us both in ways we still haven’t figured out.
Moving to Ireland from the United States has been rewarding and a challenge. Navigating the health insurance has been a struggle as they have adopted the you cannot speak to a person easily if at all.
And after two years in a pandemic they still don’t have enough people to answer the phone. Some things are the same everywhere.
Life is easier here in that we are not in a city and it’s laid back here, which is lovely. People are much more friendly in Ireland, I think it would compare to rural America. Minus the confederate flags and the automatic weapons.
There are more safety nets for people here than in the States. And if you have an accident and break something it’s fixed without having to pay, or pay very little.
I think often of the people and friends who didn’t make it through the last few years and I do understand how lucky I am. And with everything also that’s going on in the world it’s crazy one thing after another. Maybe with one dictator less in the world it can become a more peaceful place for a while, that would be nice.
